Meet the Crew

Making movies isn't for everybody. Making no-budget independent features is for even fewer. I don't mean to shatter any illusions here but, as it turns out, making movies is kinda hard. Most people don't like thirteen-hour days full of hard work, emotional turmoil and only the vaguest notions of what the over-all plan is with hardly anything to sustain themselves but goldfish and pop and no other compensation save for the hope of a decent flick coming out of it someday, somehow.
Apparently some people dig the crap out of it though. Here's some of 'em in alphabetical order:

Quinn Allan, co-producer of THE ROOMIES

Before things got rolling, Quinn figured since he'd be playing the lead in a feature-length movie then maybe he'd be able to just focus on acting for once. Oh for the days of such naivety. Here he is wondering why the co-producer also has to record sound.

Wes Cornwell, director of photography of THE ROOMIES

Wes is always in a good mood. Either that or his bad moods are way more chill than everybody else's good moods. Or maybe he just has the one mood. If I was gonna pick one mood and stick with it, I'd go with what he's having. Either way, he shoots some pretty video. Here he is using the power of his mind to keep Katie out of focus.

Beth Good, assistant director of THE ROOMIES

Beth used up her vacation hours to take off work and fly herself up to Portland to help make this movie. Her experience, work ethic and common sense were invaluable in shaping our routine and keeping us on track long enough to be able manage without her. Here she is maybe pretending to be the ghost from The Frighteners.

Katie Mentesana, assistant director of THE ROOMIES

Katie jumped into Beth's shoes after she had to head back to work and managed to keep pace awesomely. No easy task since the AD job on this shoot is basically all the jobs that nobody else is doing. You'd be surprised how many come up. Here she is applying Ben's forehead to his face.

Steve Riddle, sound/key grip for THE ROOMIES

Who do you know who would bike over an hour in the rain to work on a movie for the whole day and then bike back in the dark and come back and do it again over and over for no money and admittedly not-fantastic catering? Probably nobody, unless you know Steve. He is a little too awesome but he carries it well. Here he is with his new favorite record.

Jared Yanez, writer/director/etc. of THE ROOMIES

And here's me, making sure my beard doesn't escape. Again.

So, that's us alright. On Sunday we wrapped our last two big dialogue scenes and we're down to just a few scenes with no audio. It's weird being this close to done with shooting. It's kinda weird being anything if you really think about it. I'd rather not though.
Maybe next time we'll meet The Entropy All-Stars.
