On 7.7.07 at 7:07 AM I drove up to visit my friends Jeff and Louie up in Humboldt County. At the time they were living in a cramped apartment with their friend Brian and things were kind of dire. The place was practically a biohazard at the time. Captured on tape is the garage, packed with loads of abandoned crap from somebody else's house as well as the combined crap of my friends, as well as a snippet of conversation about our inability to find a rat that had apparently died somewhere underneath the kitchen. There was a tangible gradient in the stench of death, present throughout the apartment but at its most dense where all the food was stored. Tensions were high between the roommates and shortly after I left Jeff and Louie parted ways with Brian and thankfully everybody found far nicer places to live. I recorded three hours of footage while visiting. This included several music performances from all four of us, a scene for a movie I wrote on the spot and abandoned almost as quickly, and a bunch of random BS. Although this was an extremely trying time for my friends, I had a ball and decided to move up to Humboldt shortly after for an eight-month stint.
I like how this turned out. I didn't have any plans when we were shooting and when I started editing I only knew I was going to cut it down to about ten minutes. The resulting movie made for a nice, surreal document of that time in all our lives. I have no idea if anybody who isn't us would enjoy the thing whatsoever.
